Thanks Jim. Beautiful setting and lovely music. Both my parents and other close relatives are at peace here. A very tranquil spot.

Great Jim, I used to cycle every morning through this peaceful place just to get to work and avoid traffic and it was peaceful........ till I got to work at the post Office.......!!!!

Lovely Jim, no one knows what or where, is under their noses, such as these quiet, peaceful places.
Bill(ding dong)
You've got a nose for these beautiful and interesting places , must be a gift .thanks .
Jim
..like this pair of Mallards - the male brightly coloured while the female is dull brown to be less obvious to predators when sitting her eggs...

" I come into the peace of wild things..
Jim
..who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.
Jim
I come into the presence of still water, and I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light".

THANK YOU JIM.

Great Jim. from Dave in Canada.
All my relations are resting in Gidlow

Every week on Granada TV News Fred Talbot takes us on a mystery trip to a local town or village and finishes by saying "Where am I?"
So I say "Where am I?"
Jim
Sometimes the unlikeliest of places give us the opportunity for a quiet stroll, even if only for a few minutes..
Jim
..it gives us time to switch off and enjoy the peace of natural things.
Jim
On this stroll I came across a hidden pool populated by a small group of waterfowl..
Jim
..around it the trees of early spring are still bare...
Jim
..but it's a tranquil place to pause and reflect as the local wildlife go about their daily lives, or as Wendell Berry the poet puts it...
Jim
A fallen tree has started its return to the earth..
Jim
...and another, uprooted in a winter storm, leans precariuosly, and will soon be on its way too.
Jim
The pond is surrounded by wide handsome meadows.
Jim
There is a feeling of space and high sky.
Jim
Behind the trees a path runs past houses towards Wigan town centre a couple of miles away.
Jim
This was on a visit back in December..
Jim
when the sun dips early on a winter afternoon.
Jim
But it was still pleasant enough to take a stroll.
Jim
Where was I?
Jim
Yes, it's Gidlow Cemetery..
Jim
...whose perimeter is surrounded by fields and trees.
Jim
The cemetery lies betwen the Wigan districts of Gidlow and Boar's Head.
Jim
Away from the main cemetery are three non christian graves
Jim
They seem lonely in their great field - hopefully we will all be together in the great beyond.
Jim
I didn't find my visit at all morbid, it was a peaceful place in a beautiful setting.
Jim
..On the way out down the impressive drive to the main road entrance at Boar's Head.
