For 25 years Liverpool MP Bessie Braddock fought for the rights of her socially deprived constituents.
Jim
I dedicate these photos to my Dad who sailed out of his home port of Liverpool for 18 years as a merchant seamen. He would have been proud to have seen the QM2 in his home town of Liverpool.

Ken Dodd meets MP Bessie Braddock.
Jim
..as stated here.
Jim
Outside the station. The Crown Hotel on Lime Street - "Oh! Maggie, Maggie May, they have taken you away, and you won't walk down Lime Street anymore", so goes the famous Liverpool song.
Jim
Crowds of people have turned out to see the Queen - they greeted her singing the Merseyside anthem "You'll never walk alone" and the passengers joined in - that's the Liver Building ahead.
Jim
..even I get in on the act.
Jim
From Liverpool she was sailing that night to Cork, then to Southampton and across to New York, arriving next Thursday. Let's nip on board for a quick look at the accomodation before she leaves.....
Jim
Next door is the Cunard Building.
Jim
And next door to that is The Port of Liverpool building - these make up the famous Three Graces
Jim

The three Graces - Liver Building - Cunard Building - and the Port of Liverpool Building. Close by is the old White Star Line - and its balcony from which they announced the sinking of the Titanic.

...she had to turn around in the river so she was pointing downstream for her 11pm departure with a fireworks display.
Jim
A lucky passenger joining here at Liverpool takes his luggage aboard.
Jim
Now we are close up- and can see even the cooks are taking in the occasion.

She is just so big - as long as 41 double deck buses end to end.

The wide wings of the bridge, flying the Cunard flag.
Jim
She looks so sleek and graceful, perfectly designed for trans-Atlantic crossings. This lady is no top heavy run of the mill cruise ship.
Jim
Lots and lots of people enjoyed seeing her.
