Oh beautiful, for spacious skies ♪ ♫ ☺ PS: Was that an Alabama state tag on the hut?
Drozd
I hope it wasn´t hippie dancer that jumped off the waterfall
Catreena

Mom
What phenominal photos! Thanks for sending them---I think I want to spend my summer there too. Can't wait to hear more about the trip.
Katie Warren
Loved the pics. Looked like you guys had a blast. I am jealous, because we didn't see a bear or a moose while we were there and you saw a ton of bears!! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Mark and Karin
Awesome pictures!!! Now we know why you didn't want to leave, just breathtaking shots!!
Josie & Gus
I liked the Moose!-- Gus.
It was funny when you thought the big beaver was a bear!-- Josie
It was funny when you thought the big owl was a bobcat.--Gus
Did you wait a long time for the bear to move off the tree? It was funny. -- Josie
We liked the pictures! Those pictures were great!
Mom & Dad
Fantastic photos of a fantastic trip! We are waiting to hear all about it.
Sue Kort
This was a great slide show Dave & Kim. Don and I took a trip similar to this in the 80's and it was fun to relive it through your trip. We should probably take our Dave someday!
Amber
Beautiful! LMAO through all of the captions. I am so glad Dave was able to relieve himself so we could enjoy all of that beautiful scenery! Thanks for sharing!
Amber
BEAUTIFUL! LMAO at the captions! Thanks for sharing, and I am really glad Dave was able to relieve himself so we could enjoy such scenery! Thanks!
Jeff
What an amazing trip this must of been-- I count the Midwest lucky to get you back!
Dawn Kleinfeldt
AWESOME photos!! Looks like you two had a wonderful time! Thanks for sharing !
Jamie Briggs
Beautiful pictures. The whole bear thing makes me think twice about going there with children though - maybe in a few years.

Here are some photos of our trip. Be warned, there are many of them. Feel free to skip around. To make it more pleasant, background music is provided by a Jeffrey Foucault show.

Next three are animal photos of questionable quality.
davekunkle
Result of my watering (I really had to go).
davekunkle
Celebrating the result.
davekunkle
Fire areas (there was a big one in 1988) and elk (there were big ones in 2009)
davekunkle
Watering the flora.
davekunkle
These next three photos are from Trout Lake...
davekunkle
...where there's a really great lake...
davekunkle
...with trout, that are getting ready to spawn
davekunkle
Kim throwing down some mad rhymes in the backcountry.
davekunkle
HUUUUGGEE bear claws ripped the tree. I wanted to see the bear that did this, Kim did not want to see the bear.
davekunkle
Who needs to buy a camper when you can just build your own. Check out the window unit a/c.
davekunkle
Bison traffic jam.
davekunkle
This was the first bear we saw. It was running fast so the photo didn't turn out great. I wasn't satisfied...I wanted more bears!
davekunkle
This is not a bear, but an antelope. They are everywhere in Yellowstone, but for some reason this is the only photo we took of one.
davekunkle
Not a bear.
davekunkle
Again, not a bear.
davekunkle
Nope, no bear (although this little guy attacked and killed a big trout right in front of us. We tried to get it on video, but didn't have any luck).
davekunkle
Getting ready to devour a trout.
davekunkle
No bear.
davekunkle
Young, non-bear thing.
davekunkle
Nope. Still no bear.
davekunkle
Mutant, attached at the head bison (or just bison play fighting). Either way, not bears.
davekunkle
There's got to be bears out there somewhere...right?
davekunkle
BEAR!!!!!!!!! Looking right at me!
davekunkle
Geothermal area bears don't live in.
davekunkle
Two elk being stalked by a grizzly (really, I'm not kidding). We never did get to see the grizz, but it was there.
davekunkle
Huge elk!
davekunkle
BEAR! AGAIN! This time is was a cinnamon bear...see next photo...
davekunkle
...it's a black bear, but has a brown body and black head and legs. Very cool.
davekunkle
This is a bear cub hanging from a tree branch. We waited for about 15 minutes for it to come down and catch up to its mother (she's off screen to the left), but it never did.
davekunkle
Old Faithful was five minutes early.
davekunkle
Okay, now here's the cool ones: Kim and I were in the backcountry when we came across a grizzly! There's a valley between us, with a good sized river, but the bear saw us and we saw it.
davekunkle
Grizzly again.
davekunkle
If you wanted to know how to get to Mammoth, there you go.
davekunkle
Seems like a Yellowstone postcard.
davekunkle
This does too (bison traffic jam). They stop in the middle of the road and don't move. Then tourists come close to them to take photos. Bad idea. Bison charge people.
davekunkle
Bear, really close to the road (so close, in fact, the shadow's the shadow of our car.
davekunkle
I drove ahead a bit.
davekunkle
Bad photo of a coyote, but we saw many. Also wolves, although we didn't get a good photo of one of those either.
davekunkle
On our last day we saw a moose.
davekunkle
This is the drive home, via the Beartooth Highway. Insane road!
davekunkle
I struck this goofy pose, waiting for Kim to take the photo. Kim did, but didn't tell me. Having me stay in this pose for a good 45 seconds. People laughed at me.
davekunkle
Thanks for watching!
Kim and Dave
davekunkle
First stop, South Dakota, where I (Dave) thought I saw a bear swimming (I'm bear crazy)
davekunkle
It was just a large beaver.
davekunkle
I did not mistake this as a bear, although at first I thought it was a bobcat. It's an owl.
davekunkle
The Badlands...
davekunkle
Interior, South Dakota, has a cool sign.
davekunkle
Where Kim spent the first night.
davekunkle
Nothing says roughing it like wi-fi and Mt. Dew. Notice the concentration (tongue).
davekunkle
Cody, Montana has a nightly rodeo. If you find yourself there, go to it.
davekunkle
On the drive from Cody to Yellowstone via Chief Joseph Highway.
davekunkle
Kim with a walking stick and in support of the Tennessee Smokies, AA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
davekunkle
This is the view from the front porch of the cabin we stayed in.
davekunkle
Kim reminded me that I could not molest the animals.
davekunkle
Newest hat fashion--giant elk skull cap.
davekunkle
Flowers that are wild.
davekunkle
Waterfall--the bottom of the waterfall trail was close because some guy leaped off it the day before. They still haven't found his body.
davekunkle
Big sky country.
davekunkle
Geothermal pools around Yellowstone...
davekunkle
Beautiful roads in Yellowstone...
