Every year family friends very generously let us use their caravan near Annan in the Scottish Borders for a summer break. This year Catherine and the family joined us for a weekend.

Connor my best mate - I told him not to chop that tree down, but would he listen?

He loved walking through the woods above the river on our way to Stony Beach

He collected sycamore spinners, and horse chestnuts, and pine cones, and learnt from his Dad that moss always grows on the north side of trees.

Connor loved this spooky bit.

Then they were gone and we were left to chill out on our own - and we did miss them.
Jim
End of day - time for a beer I think - and watch the sun go down. Hope you enjoyed the show.

The games room - Connor couldn't get the hang of it but Katie bashed it like a good 'un.

The children loved the play area which Katie called The Park.

Lots of open spaces to run wild in.

It's a great salmon and trout river.

The tree covered hill is a conservation area with public paths and a great view over the river and beyond.

This is Stony Beach - so named by Connor - by Hoddom Bridge

On Hoddom Bridge - the road beyond goes to Lockerbie with its air disaster Memorial Garden.

Back at the castle a group of golfers make their way down to the 9 hole golf course.

You can play all day for about a tenner.
