A lovely spot to enjoy whether you are a golfer or not. Once again, Jim - thanks for sharing. Keep doing what you are so good at - and keep 'em coming, please.
Jim
Its a fact that 80% of golfers will never achieve a handicap of less than?
Jim
Thanks Sheila,
As you say it is a great walking area - the club is worth a visit just to see that picture of the course for real.

houghwood is our local jim, there is certainly no need for you to hang up your walking boots, billinge hill is riddled with lots of footpaths to enjoy, some long some short, and plenty of opportunity to stop for a drink or a meal along the way, and being an old billinger i well remember the days before the golf course existed, at the "lump" on the top, if you look carefully there are one or two ancesters initials carved into the stone, its a special place for me and ed xxx

Now I've come full circle, thanks to you, Jim; I was born at Billinge hospital, and as kids we used to walk up to the top of Billinge hill from there, having taken the Ribble bus from in front of the Co-op. on Moor Rd. at Orrell Post. Thanks for prompting these memories. Kind regards, Geoff.

Houghwood Golf Club. Billinge, Lancashire.
Jim
We called in for lunch.
Jim
Its terrace has great views ...
Jim
..over the fertile Lancashire plain to the coast..
Jim
..to Liverpool and Southport..
Jim
..and from the upstairs restaurant, as far as the Welsh hills.
Jim
It's nice to call in for a meal, or a bar snack - or just relax with a drink on the terrace.
Jim
You don't even have to be a member to enjoy its location.
Jim
I liked the symetry of the pathways curving away around the course..
Jim
..I'm not a golfer..
Jim
..but I can understand its appeal - which I think holds as much to the surroundings it is played in, as to the actual game itself.
Jim
Maybe its time I put away the boots and camera, and picked up a golf club - or maybe not - best to stick to what one does best.

I'd like to say I got up early on a misty Autumn morning to capture all the elements captured in this great photo of the course - but no - I simply snapped the print hanging in the clubhouse. Bye.
