Something not in the museum but worthy of it - a pair of children's wooden soled clogs - the footwear of choice, years ago in Wigan and other mill towns. Hope you enjoyed the show.

Now I can't resist taking picture of things that are too high up to see properly from the ground, so here is a shot of the Raven pub in Wallgate.

Now it may look like a roman toilet - but the notice by it tells us it is part of a column that has been hollowed, probably to make a large oil lamp.

At the moment the exhibition reflects pride in the town..

..which originated as a Roman fort, Coccium - at a junction of roads..

..linking the Roman forts of Chester, Warrington, and Ribchester, and the road to the fort at Manchester, 20 miles away.

Local items of play, a hand made skipping rope - and a "piggy" outfit - the stick was used to strike the "piggy" ( a tapered peg - shown here - off the edge of a brick and then strike it in the air.
