Jim Something not in the museum but worthy of it - a pair of children's wooden soled clogs - the footwear of choice, years ago in Wigan and other mill towns. Hope you enjoyed the show.

Jim Now I can't resist taking picture of things that are too high up to see properly from the ground, so here is a shot of the Raven pub in Wallgate.

Jim And here is a shot of the terrific raven figure on its pediment.

Jim Now it may look like a roman toilet - but the notice by it tells us it is part of a column that has been hollowed, probably to make a large oil lamp.

Jim At the moment the exhibition reflects pride in the town..

Jim ..which originated as a Roman fort, Coccium - at a junction of roads..

Jim ..linking the Roman forts of Chester, Warrington, and Ribchester, and the road to the fort at Manchester, 20 miles away.

Jim Here are exhibited finds found in exavations done in the town centre.

Jim Tributes to famous local products like - Uncle Joe's Mint Balls - and pies.

Jim The famous strip of Wigan Warriors Rugby League team - famous worldwide.

Jim ..and the strip of Wigan Athletic footbal club - a Premiership side.

Jim Local items of play, a hand made skipping rope - and a "piggy" outfit - the stick was used to strike the "piggy" ( a tapered peg - shown here - off the edge of a brick and then strike it in the air.

Jim Famous local stories - like Mab's Cross a crusade legend - and the skull of a martyred monk kept in Skull House.

Jim A running video, depicting the glory days of Wigan Casino All Nighter in the 70s - voted Best Nightclub - In The World.

Jim Wigan's Borough coat of arms - Wigan is one of the four oldest boroughs in Lancashire - it's motto ancient and loyal is in English not Latin.
