Hey Jim. Great to see slide-show. What weather, eh?! More like November than June. Lovely place, though - and as our daughter says -"It don't rain in the pub!"
Lisa
hey jim....can't wait to get to wigan in december after seeing that!!

A photo of the White Hart taken on a kinder day.
Jim
In June 2008 St. Matthews Rambling Club, Wigan, were caught in an unseasonable summer rain storm at Hawes in N. Yorkshire.
This is a photo record of the day.
Jim
Leaving the road in Hawes and heading out across the meadows.
Jim
Wet and bedraggled on the walk they might have been, but our ladies always make an effort, and here they look nice and relaxed as they wait for their after walk meal.
Jim
The meal and a drink together are the highlight of our days out together.
Jim
On our way for a day's walking at Hawes in N. Yorks.
Jim
Arriving in Hawes, North Yorkshire.
Jim
With the car park almost empty in mid June we should have suspected something..
Jim
..did other people know about the impending storm?
Jim
All is silent - even the steam train isn't operating today.
Jim
Just this vintage single decker..
Jim
..that still plies a service around the Dales villages.
Jim
One of the many dry stone walls that will slow our return when the storm catches us.
Jim
You have to wait your turn to get over - then wait for others to come over before you can set off.
Jim
One of the many ancient cattle barns that are common in the Dales.
Jim
These were used to house cattle tended by wives and children.
Jim
Dark and gloomy - who would think it was June?
Jim
Tall grass in the hay meadows start to sway in the wind
Jim
We step off the open moor into the village of Burnesett
Jim
..whose inhabitants are wisely tucked up in their houses.
Jim
The rain is now beating down and this covered walkway is the only shelter we can find while we grab something to eat.
Jim
Crossing all the field walls really slowed our return to the village.
Jim
Even the camera can't avoid the dampness
Jim
At last we see the tower of Hawes church and know shelter is now in sight - and we need it, as the cold and wet have really taken their toll on our stamina.
Jim
Safe inside the pub talk is all about the day's walking conditions.
Jim
After a day in the storm a blazing fire in The White Hart Inn in Hawes is just heaven. God bless the British pub.
Jim
Thawing out and drying off.
Jim
..blissfully unaware we are in for a really wet and windy day.
Jim
Outside, just 100 yards away from the pub the river thunders under the main street in Hawes.
Jim
The wind driven rain gets inside the best of waterproofs - now its a race to get back.
Jim
...taking pictures is a hit or miss exercise.
Jim
What was a shallow stream a couple of hours ago is now in flood
Jim
The rivers and streams seem to fill before our eyes.
Jim
With 20 people crossing them is a cold and tedious exercise.
Jim
On the coach setting off for home..
Jim
...and it's still raining.
Jim
Goodbye Hawes - sorry we caught you on a bad day - but we will be back - hopefully, on a kinder summer's day.
