Donna Watkins GREAT stroll through your yard. Today we saw a couple of different "couples" mating. I think they're awesome bugs! I'm enjoying the songs, but Randal says he's getting tired of the "noise." I say, "it's all in how you think of it." :-) Lots of hugs, smiles and blessings tossed in here for you! Love you! Donna
smilin7 The following photos were taken 3 days after the preceding photos... INVASION!
smilin7 This is what I saw when I opened our front door this morning.
smilin7 another view
smilin7 and yet another view
smilin7 on our porch railing
smilin7 Hello there!
smilin7 bottoms up!
smilin7 another view
smilin7 Oh! Surprise; there's two!
smilin7 My name's Mo; what's yours?
smilin7 one, two, three on the siding, and shells all over...
smilin7 but then I turned the corner!
smilin7 The pic before this shows the outside of my home office. The exterior wall is COVERED in cicadas!
smilin7 How many do you count?
smilin7 They climb out of their holes in the ground, up the wall, shed, climb up further to dry off, then fly away... hundreds of them!
smilin7 fun to see them in various stages
smilin7 This one looks quite different! Anyone know why? male? female? different species?
smilin7 those 'eyes'!
smilin7 see the line of holes?
smilin7 all over this young buckeye shrub (probably not a good thing; they may injure this tree)
smilin7 See all the holes? Every day we see more!
smilin7 "They're everywhere!"
smilin7 I counted 46 on this shrub alone!
smilin7 My husband is less-enamored today; the cicadas woke him up at 2:30 a.m. and kept him up most of the night. [I slept right through the cacaphony!]
smilin7 This morning, nearly all our neighbors were out walking, sharing cicada stories! The cicadas came out of their shells (literally), and many neighbors came out of their shells (figuratively), too!

smilin7 We've been watching the cicada holes for several days...
smilin7 I expect to hear a chorus of cicada sounds soon!
smilin7 Do you have cicadas in your area?
smilin7 There are several kinds here; these are supposed to be 17-year cicadas. What does that mean?
