Julie Stockton Great job Ian - Really enjoying the memories of creating and recreating the mural. So lucky to have the immensely talented Ros and Carol (and many more) at PPS.
ianmclean Following the Great PhotoPeach Crash of December 2012, I have had to relaunch this slideshow to a new URL. The previous version had over 1380 views. Onward and upward!
dottl Great to see that your school's mural history lives on. Mrs F.
Class SCHM I loved the old library, but thank you for the pictures - Alysar.
I loved the old pictures! - Rose.
I love the old pictures from the old library. Thank you, Mr McLean. - James.
My favourite picture is the old sailing ship. Luke.
I always used the old mural for different teaching themes at Penrith PS... and now I still can! Kerrie Mead.
ianmclean Thanks Laureen for the great feedback. At the recent Kevin Hennah conference, he warned that murals can become "political", and people who were not even the original stakeholders can become very emotional about attempts to modernise the time-worn status quo. Our school had long given up thinking that the "temporary" building would be replaced by something permanent. Thanks to 21st century technologies, we could preserve and share the mural for future generations - both digitally and in reality!
ianmclean Once upon a time, in 1998, a group of teachers contemplated the boring, blank wall of their school library...
Laureen How clever! It's so sad when these things have to disappear, but through modern technology they can live on. Good on your P&C being so supportive and "retaining" a part of the school's history. I wonder if the teachers who created those original mural panels about the history of your school ever imagined they would one day be a part of that history?
Margot & Bruce Pickworth What a great memory for the school - from two past teachers...
Lizzie Chase I love it, Ian. Love the history - and continuity.
Sue Pascoe Great job, Ian. Love it!
Naomi Well done Ros and Carol, and well done Ian!
Sharon Wilkes A wonderful way to preserve an important part of Penrith Public School's history. Well done, Ian!
Carol Bagnell Thanks Ian. You've done a fantastic job. It's brought back many fond memories.
Laura Ball It's brilliant, Ian. I'm going to miss the old mural. Hope other people get some joy from this.
Sonja Wow, I would love to learn how to do this. What a lovely memento.
Fran Hughes What a fantastic idea, Ian. Congratulations on capturing this... it has now been shared with so many more.
Carol Martin Good on you Ian, Yvonne, Julie and Kerrie for preserving this important part of Penrith Public School's history.
ianmclean Special thanks to Mrs Ros Martin & Mrs Carol Bagnell, who've done so much to brighten our school with their artistic talents.
ianmclean An historical mural was planned. It would tell Penrith's story, from the Dreaming... to the present... for future generations.
ianmclean Mrs Ros Martin & Mrs Carol Bagnell assembled a team of eager helpers.
ianmclean Finally, the mural was completed.
ianmclean A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held.
ianmclean Diverse but unified...
ianmclean In 2010, we thought the mural was gone forever.
ianmclean The sections of the library disappeared on ten large trucks.
ianmclean But... thanks to some funding from the P&C, in Book Week 2011 the mural returned
ianmclean to a wall of our brand new school library.
ianmclean The mural lives again, to inform and entertain our future generations.
