ianmclean The grasshopper saw a red ant carrying a yellow kernel of corn.
ianmclean The ant was working hard to collect food for her Queen.
ianmclean The grasshopper wanted to talk to the ant.
ianmclean "Can you please play with me?"
ianmclean "No. I don't want to play with you..."
ianmclean "I want to work to get ready for the winter," said the ant.
ianmclean "Oh well, I might go and eat some grass for morning tea. Then I will dance and sing."
ianmclean The ant felt jealous but she kept working.
ianmclean She carried more corn kernels back to the ants' nest because winter was coming.
ianmclean One day, snow started to fall and soon it covered all the dying grass.
ianmclean The grasshopper couldn't see any food because it was under the white snow.
ianmclean ... the hungry birds couldn't see him.
ianmclean Now, he was a green grasshopper sitting on the white snow! The birds might catch him and take him back to their nest.
ianmclean "You can't fit down our hole. You should have been collecting food in the summer instead of dancing, singing and playing."
ianmclean She came up out of her hole with some corn for the grasshopper...
ianmclean But it was too late.
